Look Out Jeff Foxworthy, you got company!

On Feb 7 Trav's school had it's annual Talent Show. The rules say you are supposed to have some kind of talent to enter but Trav entered anyway:)  His 'Talent' was a stand up Comedian (At least his Dad laughed at his jokes cause his Dad picked them out:)  Anyway, if you look at the picture on the right you'll see where 'Hairgel' got his name from.

Is that Kimmie or Zola Budd?

On Feb 4 Kimmie ran in the 800 meter race at the Alabama State Indoor High School Championships in Decatur Alabama. Her 'heat' had the fastest qualifiers from during the Indoor Season and Kimmie was seeded 4th among 12 runners.  The race started and in the first 50 meters Kimmie got her feet tangled up with a girl from Huntsville and Kimmie lost her right shoe!

Now keep in mind this is a wooden track and the kids wear sharp spikes which dig-up little splinters in the racing groove. Well, losing the shoe must have inspired Kimmie cause she took off and not only won the race, she missed the State record by 5/100ths of a sec. Her time 2:25:78 for the half-mile race.

After the race, the coaches and officials started kidding her and calling her ZOLA BUDD, the South African lady who ran barefoot in the 1984 Olympic Games.  We spent Friday night digging splinters out of Kimmie's foot :) but she said it was worth it. She was named 'Outstanding Performer' for the meet.
