Trav's Charlotte Adventure

Over the Thanksgiving Holidays, Trav, his Dad and sister Kimmie went to Charlotte, North Carolina to compete in the Footlocker Southeast Cross-Country Chapmionships. Both Kimmie and Trav had qualified previously in races in Alabama. (Kimmie made the Alabama All-State team in early November).

The 'Footlocker' is the biggest cross contry race series in America for High School students. The top eight finishers in the High School division go on to compete for the National Championship in Orlando in December. Kimmie finished 24th which ment she didn't qualify for Orlando but she did make 'Third Team All-South'. She ran one of her fastest times of the year over the 5,000 meter course. Trav competed in the age 10 and under division and finished a surpriseing 4th over the 3,000 meter course. He made 'First Team All-South' but elementry students do not advance.

To see race results of the top finishers, go here. FOOTLOCKER Trav is listed in the 'Under 14 Results' and Kimmie is listed in the 'Junior-Senior Results'.  Trav's Dad was very proud of both of them. Kimmie got to meet and talk to several collage coaches who encouraged her to keep studying hard, training hard, and start making plans for collage in 2001.

On Friday the day after Thanksgiving, Trav and his Dad went to Charlotte Motor Speedway where NASCAR Winston Cup races are held, and they got to drive their own car around the track for about 10 laps. The track is banked highly so you had to drive 70mph at least! They reached a top speed of 105 mph and felt like Jeff Gordon and Richard Petty out there!
